GREENET (Green and Energy Efficient Networks) is a project within the PE RESTART program, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
As part of the project, FourClicks is developing a software platform for the design and analysis of wireless networks in indoor environments, with a focus on simulation and optimization of Access Point placement.
Wi-Fi planning in complex environments requires balancing coverage, performance, and costs while taking into account physical obstacles and interference between devices.
GREENET addresses this challenge with clear objectives: reducing the number of required devices, ensuring high signal quality, and minimizing co-channel interference by prioritizing the use of non-overlapping channels.
At the core of the solution is AP-POAC (AP-POsitioning on Area Covering), a platform that allows users to import or recreate floor plans, model indoor environments (rooms, walls, multi-floor buildings), and place devices directly on the map.
The platform combines simulation and optimization techniques to suggest improved network configurations, supporting users in both network sizing and Access Point placement.
• Floor Plan Modeling: Manual drawing or import of reference floor plans, with tools for creating walls, areas, doors, windows, and managing multiple floors.
• Simulation: Generation of color-coded coverage maps with percentage-based metrics to evaluate signal quality across the environment.

• Optimization: Recommendations on the number and positioning of Access Points to reduce co-channel interference (CCI) while meeting predefined quality constraints.

The platform enables a map-assisted design process that allows users to evaluate scenarios, compare alternative solutions, and validate decisions before real-world deployment, reducing both implementation uncertainty and the need for costly iterations.
By optimizing network design with respect to costs, performance, and interference, the platform helps achieve more uniform coverage using the minimum possible number of devices while maintaining high standards of service quality and stability.
